FA Trophy: Gzira hit eight past Mqabba

Gzira United secured a place in the FA Trophy Round of 16 as they defeated Challenge League side Mqabba at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

The Maroons scored six in the first half thanks to Bahrudin Atajic on the 3rd, Ricardo Calixto Correa on the 5th, Gabriel Bohrer Mentz on the 8th, Jefferson de Assis on the 24th, a Filype Pinheiro penalty on the 38th and Jefferson de Assis on the 41st.

In the second half, Gzira added another two goals thanks to Jackson Mendoza on the 76th and Jefferson de Assis eight minutes from time.

Gzira United join Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans, Mosta, Santa Lucia, Senglea Athletic, Sirens, Tarxien Rainbows, Valletta, BOV Challenge League sides Marsa, Naxxar Lions, Pembroke Athleta and St. Andrews and Gozitan sides Ghajnsielem and Xaghra United in the Round of 16. The only remaining match from the Round of 32 between Hibernians and Zejtun Corinthians has been postponed on Wednesday and is therefore yet to be played.

The Round of 32 matches will be played between March 2 and 4.
