Gzira United make it eight wins in a row

Gzira United moved second, one point behind leaders Hamrun Spartans and one point ahead of Hibernians as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 4-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

For the Maroons, this was the eighth consecutive win while for Zejtun, this was the second consecutive defeat which leaves them fifth from bottom.

Gzira took the lead on the 10th minute when off an assist by Martin Davis from the right, Maxuell Maia da Silva hit home past goalkeeper Christian Cassar.

Four minutes in the second half, Ricardo Correa doubled the score as he slotted the ball past the Zejtun goalkeeper after a cross from the right by Nikolai Muscat.

Six minutes in the second half, a great goal by Nevin Portelli whose fine rising shot from outside the area gave Cassar no chance put the Maroons three goals ahead.

Martin Davis added another on the 63rd minute after rounding a number of defenders before hitting past the Zejtun custodian.
