VisitMalta Women’s Trophy: Sweden beat Malta 3-0

Sweden defeated Malta 3-0 in another match from the VisitMalta Women’s Trophy at the Hibernians Stadium on Tuesday.

Malta coach Mark Gatt made two changes to the team which lost to Slovakia on Thursday as Ann-Marie Said and Emma Xuereb replaced Martina Borg and Jade Flask. Haley Bugeja and Ylenia Carabott were once again unavailable. Sweden, on the other hand, fielded a completely different team from that which defeated Austria on Friday.

Sweden took the lead on the 19th minute when Julia Roddar’s powerful shot from outside the area was deflected by Real Madrid striker Kosovare Asslani past goalkeeper Janice Xuereb.

On the hour, Sweden doubled the score thanks to Olivia Schough whose corner from the left was slightly tipped by Xuereb into the net.

Lina Hurtig hit the crossbar with a header following a cross from the right on 75 minutes.

Eight minutes from time, Nathalie Bjorn scored the third goal, converting a penalty after Mimmi Larsson was brought down inside the area by Charlene Zammit.

In the remaining minutes, Sweden hit the woodwork twice, first with a header by Hurtig and then with an angled shot by Caroline Seger.

The tournament came to an end later on Tuesday as Austria defeated Slovakia 1-0 thanks to a goal by Marie-Therese Höbinger on the 14th minute.
