MFA suspends Youth FA, women’s Under-15, Under-19 competitions

In view of the measures prohibiting contact sport for persons aged 16 or under, as announced by the Government on Thursday, 4 March, 2021, the Malta Football Association is suspending the following competitions with immediate effect and until further notice:

• Youth FA competitions, including festivals;
• Under-14 league;
• Under-16 Futsal League;
• Women’s Under-15 competitions;
• Women’s Under-19 competitions.

With regard to the Women’s Under-19 competitions, these are being suspended since they are not sustainable without the participation of players in the Under-16 age cohort. This factor has also been raised by the clubs as over 68 per cent of the players taking part in this season’s Women’s Under-19 competitions are aged 16 or under.

Rigorous adherence to all the measures and recommendations of the Malta FA Return To Play Protocols, which are approved by the health authorities, remains imperative for all the other categories.
