Lija Athletic stun Santa Lucia

Lija Athletic came back from a goal down to beat Santa Lucia 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Although they are still second from bottom, just four points now separate them from Balzan and Gudja who share the eleventh place.

Following a goalless first half, Santa Lucia took the lead on the 49th minute when off an Alan da Silva corner from the left, Kevin Correia headed home past goalkeeper Luke Bonnici.

Lija, however, levelled matters on the 56th minute thanks to a Carlos Flores curved shot from the left which beat Montfort.

Ten minutes later, Carlos Flores, served by Gonzalo Virano on the right, surprised Montfort with a cross shot which ended at the back of the net.

Lija sealed the issue on the 71st minute when Fernando Brandan sent Carl Cassar through on the left and the latter beat Montfort with an angled shot.
