Fixtures for Women’s World Cup qualifiers released: Malta to face Denmark away from home in first match

The Malta women’s national team will be facing with Denmark away from home in the first match from Group E of the European Qualifying Competition for the 2023 FIFA World Cup on September 16.

Matches will be played as double-headers between September 2021 and September 2022.

After the match against Denmark, Malta hosts Bosnia Herzegovina five days later. In October Malta plays two matches away from home against Russia on the 21st and Azerbaijan on the 26th. In November, Malta hosts Montenegro on the 26th before travelling to Bosnia Herzegovina for the November 30 match.

The qualifiers then resume in April 2022 with Malta hosting the top two teams in the group – Denmark on the 8th and Russia on the 12th. In the final two matches in September 2022, Malta hosts Azerbaijan on the 2nd and then plays Montenegro away from home on the 6th.

Denmark are currently 16th in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, Russia 25th, Bosnia-Herzegovina 58th, Azerbaijan 77th and Montenegro 98th. Malta is currently 94th.

The winners of the nine qualifying groups will progress directly to the finals in Australia and New Zealand. The group runners-up take part in the UEFA play-offs in October 2022.
