University of Malta secure FMA Challenger Cup final spot

University of Malta clinched the fourth place in the FMA National League standings as they defeated Mellieħa Futsal 4-2 in the decider.

It was an evenly contested match with both sides giving their all to win this decisive encounter. Essa Benatiya was in fine form for the Students’ as he notched a brace while Alex Ellul and Stefan Camilleri put their names on the score sheet. Gregory Busuttil and Misa Spajic scored the two goals for Mellieħa.

This win also guaranteed University of Malta a place in the FMA Challenger Cup final.

Meanwhile in other matches, St George’s Futsal beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 while Qormi edged past Marsaskala with a 5-4 scoreline.

In the semi-final play-offs, scheduled for Monday, Mellieħa face Naxxar while Ta’ Xbiex cross swords with St George’s.
