Mosta eliminated following 2-0 defeat in Trnava

Two first-half goals handed Spartak Trnava a 2-0 win over Mosta in the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round at the Štadión Antona Malatinského in Trnava on Thursday to reach the next round thanks to a 4-3 aggregate score.

For Spartak Trnava, this was the fifth time they eliminated a Maltese club from a UEFA club competition after eliminating Hibernians in 1969, in 2014 and 2016 and Birkirkara in 1997. They will be facing Sepsi OSK Sfantu Gheorghe of Romania in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Overall, Mosta gave a good account of themselves on their maiden participation in European football, losing by just one goal on aggregate following the 3-2 win at home last week.

Spartak Trnava took the lead on the 16th minute thanks to a Filip Twardzik long-distance effort which surprised goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi,

Prochazka was unlucky to hit the crossbar but on the 34th minute, Bamidele Yusuf doubled the score following a cross from the right.
