Hibernians off to a winning start

Hibernians bounced back from the elimination from the UEFA Europa Conference League with an impressive 3-1 win over Gzira United at the National Stadium.

The Paolites took the lead on the 13th when a freekick by Gabi Izquier from the right was blocked by the Gzira defence and Jake Grech’s conclusion off the rebound was deflected by Bohrer Mentz past goalkeeper Haber.

The Maroons equalised on the 24th when off a Steve Pisani freekick from the right, Maxuell Maia da Silva headed home in style past goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone.

Five minutes in the second half, Hibs regained the lead when Gabi Izuquier released Jake Grech on the left and the latter slotted the ball past the Gzira goalkeeper.

Hibernians increased the lead on the 74th when off a cross by Jake Grech from the right, Ferdinando Apap headed the ball home past Haber.
