Nadur, Ghajnsielem share spoils as Gozitan First Division gets underway

Nadur Youngsters and Ghajnsielem shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw as the BOV Gozo Football League First Division kicked-off with the first four matches from match day 1 at the Gozo Stadium.

The Blacks, who were leading the table when the league was brought to an abrupt halt last season due to COVID restrictions, drew 2-2 with challengers Nadur on Friday.

Ederson Bruno Domingos put Nadur ahead on the 20th but goals by Igor Nedeljkovic on the 31st and Dejan Galic three minutes from the end of the first half turned the score in the favour of Nadur. However, Judivan Flor da Silva rescued a point for the Youngsters with a goal on the 70th. In added time, Keith Borg was sent off for Ghajnsielem.

On Sunday, Xewkija Tigers earned the three points thanks to a 2-1 win over Oratory Youths. Rafael Rodolfo da Silveira put the Tigers ahead on the 56th minute but Joao Vitor Ferrari Silva equalised on the 70th. The same player was sent off for Oratory and Joseph George Vella converted a penalty for Xewkija to hand them victory.

Kercem Ajax registered a comfortable 4-1 win over Oratory Youths on Monday. Own goals on the 55th and 65th handed Kercem a comfortable lead and Joshua Buttigieg made it 3-0 on the 74th. Sam Harland pulled one back for the Wanderers on the 91st but two minutes later, Buttigieg added another for Elton Vella’s side.

On Saturday, Sannat Lions held Victoria Hotspurs in a 1-1 draw. Andrea Debrincat put the Hotspurs ahead on the 25th minute but after the dismissal of Jason Pace just before half-time, Lucas Silva Gomes levelled matters for Sannat. The Hotspurs also had Kakra Boakye Mensa sent off.
