BOV Premier League resumes with Floriana vs Valletta derby

The BOV Premier League resumes this weekend following the international break during which the Malta national team collected three points thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over Cyprus, performing well in the defeats to Slovenia and Russia.

Floriana take on Valletta at the National Stadium in the big match for this weekend while in the two matches at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Mosta face champions Hamrun Spartans while Gzira United take on Sliema Wanderers.

In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 17:00, Hamrun Spartans will be aiming for their first win after suffering back to back defeats to Valletta and Birkirkara. The Spartans should have Luke Gambin making his debut.

Mosta, on the other hand, aim at upsetting the Spartans after earning just one point from the first two outings, holding Sirens in a 1-1 draw after a 0-3 defeat to Birkirkara. Roderick Briffa, Ayonfe Sunday Akinbule and goalkeeper Marko Jovicic could all make their first appearance for the Blues.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, Valletta will be aiming at a third win from as many matches as they face a Floriana side who earned two points in two draws.

The Citizens, who should have goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo in squad, had defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-1 and Balzan 1-0. The Greens, on the other hand, drew 2-2 with Santa Lucia and 0-0 with Sliema. They signed two forwards Andrei Cosmin Ciolacu and Eugeniu Rebenja but these are not expected to feature for them on Saturday.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 21:00, neighbours Gzira United and Sliema Wanderers will both seek their first win.

The Maroons earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Santa Lucia following a 1-3 defeat to Hibernians while the Wanderers lost narrowly to Balzan, collecting a point in a draw with Floriana.

Sliema signed Dutch defender Julius Bliek and Swedish forward Valmir Berisha who could therefore make their debut. Gzira, on the other hand, secured the services of Yuri Messias.
