National Amateur Cup gets underway

The National Amateur Cup 2021/22 kicked-off on Saturday with the first four matches from the Preliminary Round.

At the Kercem Arkafort Stadium, Kalkara United defeated Gozitan Second Division side Zebbug Rovers 3-0. Julian Zammit put Kalkara ahead on the 19th minute and two goals in three minutes between the 79th and 81st by Jean Claude Cesare and Jordan Vella respectively sealed the issue for Edward Azzopardi’s side.

At the Luxol Stadium, Ghaxaq defeated Qormi 2-1. Phiram Sakchai opened the score on the 16th minute and Ryden Gatt made it 2-0 twelve minutes later. Gilmour Sammut pulled one back for Qormi on the 68th.

Zurrieq came from behind to beat Siggiewi 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. A Jason Camilleri penalty put Siggiewi ahead after just three minutes but Giovanni Galea equalised on the 61st and Luca Bugeja notched the winner one minute in added time.

In another match at the Kercem Arkafort Stadium, Mtarfa scored three in the second half to beat Gozitan side Munxar Falcons 3-0. Gianluca Calabretta scored on the 50th and 67th with Nestor Luis Silva Canas scoring on the 58th.
