MFPA, MFA reach agreement over conditions of women’s national team players

The Malta Football Players Association and the Malta Football Association have reached a landmark agreement over the conditions of the players representing the senior women’s national football team.

Discussions between the MFPA, acting on behalf of the players, and the MFA have been successfully concluded, resulting in improved terms for the members of the senior women’s national team.

Thanks to this agreement, the women’s national team players will be covered if they get injured while playing for their national team besides other benefits such as personalised kits, and increased match recovery facilities. They will also have a dedicated home dressing room before international matches. An agreement has also been reached over the remuneration for the players forming part of the women’s senior squad during international windows.

Anthony Galea, the MFPA President, said: “This Memorandum of Understanding is a very important first step towards better and equal conditions for women in football. While thanking the players for showing trust in the MFPA, we would like to congratulate them for being great ambassadors for our country. The MFPA is proud and honoured to support their efforts on the road to professionalising women’s football in Malta. We would also like to show our appreciation to the Malta Football Association for their availability and contribution during the discussions, and for being open to our proposals.”
