Melita joined Zejtun Corinthians in second place in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Lija Athletic 2-1 in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Camilo Andres Babilonia put Melita ahead one minute from the end of the first half and eight minutes in the second half, Noel Francis Omondi converted a penalty to double the score. Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos scored a consolation goal for Lija four minutes in added time.
The other match between Pembroke Athleta and Marsaxlokk has been postponed
Naxxar lead the way with 15 points, followed by Zejtun and Melita on 10, Pembroke 9, Vittoriosa 6, San Gwann 5, Rabat, Lija and Mqabba 4, Marsaxlokk 1 and St. George’s 0.
The derby between St. Andrews and Swieqi United in Group B ended in a 2-2 draw.
Johan Alberto Castano handed Swieqi the lead on the 11th minute but Joseph Farrugia converted a penalty to level matters and eleven minutes from time, Kei Sano put the Saints ahead. However on the 89th minute, Roderick Taliana equalised for Swieqi.
Tarxien lead the way with 9 points, followed by Marsa and Swieqi on 8, Zebbug and Fgura 7, Qrendi and Pieta’ 6, Luqa 5, St. Andrews, Mgarr and Senglea 3.
