Santa Lucia held by ten-man Sliema

Despite playing for over an hour in ten men, Sliema Wanderers earned a point in a goalless draw with Santa Lucia at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

A draw which leaves Andrea Pisanu’s side at the bottom of the table, two points behind Santa Lucia and Mosta. For Santa Lucia, this was the sixth draw in seven matches.

Oliver Spiteri was forced to make one change due to the absence of the suspended Jurgen Pisani. Sliema, on the other hand, had three changes as Miguel Fernandes Lima, Warsama Hassam and Myles Beerman made way for Inters Gui, Yuki Uchida and Raphael Kooh Sohna.

Santa Lucia went close with a header by Patrick Mota and a Gianmarco Conti effort early in the game and Sliema replied with a Valmor Berisha effort.

On the 25th minute, the Wanderers were reduced to ten men after Danny Holla was sent off for a rough tackle on Andre Prates.

However Santa Lucia failed to take advantage as although they created more chances, they failed to break the deadlock.

Towards the hour, Kieran Xuereb had a long-distance effort for Santa Lucia ending just wide and two minutes from time, Plut served Alan da Silva Souza whose shot scraped past the post. In added time, Jamie Carbone headed just over the bar off a cross by Jan Tanti.
