Ten-man Mosta beat Sliema 3-2 in entertaining clash

Mosta returned to winning ways as they defeated Sliema Wanderers 3-2 despite having to play for twenty minutes in a clash between two of the three teams who were lying in the bottom places of the BOV Premier League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

This win enabled Mosta to extend their positive run to four matches while moving to joint-eighth together with Gzira United to leapfrog Gudja United and move three points clear of Santa Lucia.

Sliema, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table with four points from four draws after eight matches.

Mosta took the lead on the 38th minute when off an assist by Zachary Brincat from the left, William Donkin rounded a defender before hitting home past goalkeeper Timothy Aquilina.

The Wanderers equalised on the 70th minute thanks to a first-time effort by Valmir Berisha following a cross by substitute Carlos Flores. Mosta captain Tyrone Farrugia was sent off for kicking an opponent.

However four minutes later, Mosta regained the lead when off a Clayton Failla freekick from the right, Carlos Riascos hit home from close range.

Sliema levelled matters on the 79th minute thanks to a Mark Scerri effort from outside the area, deflected by Mosta’s Nathan Agius for an own goal.

But four minutes later, Mosta made it 3-2 when off a cross by Clayton Failla from the left, substitute Gianluca Sciberras slammed the ball past Aquilina.
