Women’s League: Birkirkara held by Mgarr

Leaders Birkirkara dropped their first points in the Women’s League as they were held in a goalless draw by Mgarr United at the Mgarr Ground on Tuesday.

The two teams continue to share the top spot on 10 points, followed by Swieqi United on 9 but Swieqi have a game in hand.

Swieqi defeated Kirkop United 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium.

A Dorianne Theuma penalty on the 22nd minute paved the way for Swieqi. Five minutes from the end of the first half, Kayleigh Chetcuti doubled the score. Jade Flask made it 3-0 on the hour and a minute later, Emma Xuereb scored a fourth goal. Kayleigh Chetcuti added another on the 82nd.

Meanwhile Birkirkara keep marching on with a fifth win from as many matches as they defeated Swieqi United 4-0 after beating 5-1 in their previous outing.

Raiders Lija registered their fourth successive win to keep the pace with the Stripes, defeating San Gwann 5-3 following a 4-0 win over Kirkop in the previous game.

In other matches over the past two weekends, Mgarr beat Kirkop 3-1 while Swieqi beat Mgarr 5-0.
