Women’s League: Birkirkara move top as they hit thirteen past Mtarfa

Leaders Birkirkara returned to winning ways as they defeated Mtarfa 13-0 in the Women’s League at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

Alishia Sultana opened the score on the 15th minute and Ruth Steer Chetham scored twice on the 17th and 22nd to take a three-goal lead. Sultana scored Birkirkara’s fourth on the 26th and Raina Giusti made it 5-0 on the 32nd.

In the second half, Birkirkara scored another eight goals, courtesy of Valentina Rapa on the 48th and 76th, Stephania Farrugia on the 53rd and 87th, Raina Giusti on the 67th and 84th, an own goal by Shania Marie Spiteri on the 72nd and Ruth Steer Chetham on the 90th.

Swieqi United failed to keep the pace with the Stripes as they were held in a goalless draw by Raiders Lija at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.

At the Mgarr Ground, Kirkop United beat San Gwann 3-1 at the Mgarr Ground.

Yulya Carella put San Gwann ahead on the 26th but one minute in added time, Sarah Urpani levelled matters. Aleksandra Georgieva made it 2-1 on the 52nd and Rodianne Zerafa sealed the issue with a third goal ten minutes from time.

Meanwhile Birkirkara maintained their perfect record with a 2-1 win over second-placed Raiders Lija.

Swieqi United joined Raiders in second place after beating Mgarr United 2-1. On the other hand, Kirkop United earned their first point after holding San Gwann in a 2-2 draw.

The Women’s Under-16 League kicked-off on Sunday with the first four matches.

Swieqi United registered a most comfortable 10-0 win over Mgarr United. Raiders Lija defeated San Gwann 7-2, Kirkop United beat Hibernians 5-1 while Birkirkara beat Mtarfa Zebbug 3-0.
