BOV Challenge League: Pembroke, Fgura move second in respective groups

Pembroke Athleta moved second in Group A of the BOV Challenge League after defeating Mqabba 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Erikys da Silva Ferreira put Pembroke ahead on the 27th minute but four minutes in the second half, Luka Mijic equalised. Jonathan Bondin restored the lead on the 61st and although Luka Mijic restored equilibrium on the 74th, three minutes in added time, Weverton Gomes Souza notched the winner.

Naxxar lead the way with 18 points, followed by Pembroke on 13, Zejtun and Melita 11, San Gwann and Vittoriosa 6, Rabat 5, Marsaxlokk, Lija and Mqabba 4 and St. George’s 1.

In Group B, Fgura United defeated Qrendi 5-1.

Matthew Brincat put Fgura ahead on the 6th minute but Romeu Romao equalised on the 18th. Fgura regained the lead through an own goal on the 38th minute and Dylan Caruana made it 3-1 three minutes later. In the second half, Fgura extended the lead thanks to Rafael Conrado Prudente on the 62nd and Matthew Brincat on the 65th.

Marsa lead the way with 11 points, followed by Fgura and Zebbug on 10, Tarxien and Swieqi 9, Pieta’ and Qrendi 7, Luqa and Mgarr 6, St. Andrews and Senglea 3.
