Ten-man Mosta hold Gzira in 2-2 draw

Despite playing for ten men for over fifty minutes, Mosta came back from two goals down to hold Gzira United in a 2-2 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

The two teams therefore continue to share the eighth place as Mosta extend their positive run to five matches while Gzira have now gone three matches without a win.

The Maroons took the lead on the 22nd minute when off a cross from the left by Yuri Messias, Maxuell Maia da Silva headed home past goalkeeper Marko Jovicic.

Six minutes from the end of the first half, Gzira were awarded a penalty after Maxuell Maia was brought down inside the area by Jonas Rodriguez Ekani with the Mosta defender also being sent off. From the penalty spot, Gabriel Bohrer Mentz doubled the score.

Mosta pulled one back on the 45th minute when Roderick Briffa sent Ayonfe Sunday Akinbule through and the latter advanced upfield and despite Bohrer Mentz’s marking managed to slot the ball past goalkeeper Darijan Radelic Zarkov.

The Blues levelled matters on the 69th minute when off a cross by Ivan Doric from the left, Rafael Morisco headed home past the Gzira goalkeeper.
