Leaders Hibernians seek win from Balzan clash

Leaders Hibernians will be aiming for the three points on Sunday as they take on Balzan in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium and the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday. Hamrun Spartans take on Santa Lucia and Gzira United cross swords with Gudja United in the other two matches.

In the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Gzira United take on Gudja United.

Lying in the eighth place on ten points, the Maroons are desperate for points after collecting just one point from the last three matches following defeats to Balzan and Floriana and a 1-1 draw with Mosta. On the other hand, Gudja lie second from bottom on seven points after losing their last four matches to Birkirkara, Hamrun, Balzan and Floriana.

The Maroons could not count on the suspended Gabriel Bohrer Mentz.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Hamrun Spartans face Santa Lucia.

The season so far has been far from impressive for the Spartans as they lie in seventh place on 12 points with four wins and five defeats from nine matches. After defeating Gudja and Sirens in their previous outings, Hamrun lost 0-1 to Hibernians last week. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are currently tenth on 9 points. They lost just one out of their last five matches, defeating Birkirkara 2-0 last Sunday.

Hamrun’s Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Franklin Sasere and Santa Lucia’s Jamie Zerafa and Victor Luis Prestes Filho are all ruled out through suspension.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Balzan meet Hibernians.

Balzan claimed maximum points from their last three matches, defeating Gzira 2-1, Gudja 1-0 and Sirens 6-1 and are now on the 15 point mark. On the other hand, Hibernians will be aiming at extending their unbeaten record with a win on Sunday to regain a five-point lead on second-placed Valletta. However they won just two out of the last five matches, being held in draws by Santa Lucia, Valletta and Birkirkara.

Leandro Almeida serves a one-match ban for Hibernians.
