Sirens bounce back from heavy defeat

Sirens bounced back from Sunday’s 1-6 defeat to Balzan as they defeated Floriana 2-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts Sirens in sixth place, one point behind Balzan and two ahead of Hamrun although the latter two have a game in hand. Floriana, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to close in on leaders Hibernians.

Sirens took the lead on the 34th minute when off a cross by Kemar Reid, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli slotted the ball past goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov from close range.

Floriana levelled matters five minutes in the second half courtesy of substitute Daniel Agius who received an intelligent assist by Kristian Keqi and hit low past Jonathan Debono.

However on the 69th minute, Sirens notched the winner when Carlo Zammit Lonardelli’s cross from the right found Bogdan Gavrila at the right place at the right time to slot past the Floriana goalkeeper.
