BOV Challenge League: Tarxien regain top spot

Tarxien Rainbows regained the top spot in Group B of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Qrendi 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Ricardo Silva Faria gave Tarxien an early lead after just four minutes. Darren Falzon doubled the score on the 35th and in added time, Michael Gatt pulled one back for Qrendi.

In a match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, St. Andrews came from behind to beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-1.

Chibuzor Lucky Nwaogu put Luqa ahead on the 6th minute but Kei Sano equalised on the 18th. Luis Andre de Melo Lima made it 2-1 seven minutes from time and six minutes later, Kei Sano added another.

Pieta’ and Zebbug lead the way with 13 points, followed by Marsa, Swieqi and Tarxien on 12 points, Fgura on 11, Qrendi 7, Luqa, Mgarr, Senglea and St. Andrews 6.

In Group A, Zejtun Corinthians defeated Mqabba 4-2 at the Centenary Stadium.

Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves scored three on the 17th, 23rd and 38th to put Zejtun three goals ahead. Luka Mijic scored on the 55th and 72nd to reduce the gap but Renan Sgaria Farias made it 4-2.

On the other hand, Melita defeated Vittoriosa Stars 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Nigel Rizzo put Melita ahead just before the end of the first half. Matteo Desira Buttigieg doubled the score thanks to a penalty on the 55th with Rizzo sealing the issue with a third goal four minutes from time.

Naxxar lead the way with 21 points, followed by Pembroke on 19, Zejtun and Melita 14, Lija and Marsaxlokk 7, San Gwann and Vittoriosa 6, Rabat 5, Mqabba 4 and St. George’s 1.
