Leaders Hibernians march on as they defeat Balzan

Hibernians keep marching on thanks to a 2-1 win over Balzan at the National Stadium on Sunday to regain a five-point lead over second-placed Valletta.

Balzan, on the other hand, suffer their first defeat following the appointment of Paul Zammit as coach. They now share fifth place with Hamrun Spartans.

Paul Fenech had a fine shot from outside the area saved by Ibrahim Kone on the 11th minute and a minute later, off a corner from the left, the ball reached Alex da Paixao whose effort was cleared off by Andrei Agius with the ball probably having already crossed the goal line.

Hibs took the lead on the 31st minute when off a cross by Gabi Izquier, Wilfried Domoraud controlled the ball inside the area before hitting low past Jake Galea.

Six minutes later, Balzan levelled matters when off a cross by Uros Ljubomirac, Paul Fenech slotted the ball past Kone.

Two minutes in the second half, Hibernians regained the lead courtesy of Jake Grech whose great volley gave goalkeeper Jake Galea no chance following a cross by Thaylor Aldama.
