Valletta, Birkirkara cross swords in battle for second place

Valletta and Birkirkara cross swords in a direct clash for second place while other precious points will be at stake in the matches Mosta vs Gudja and Sirens vs Gzira.

In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Mosta take on Gudja United.

After losing 1-3 to Valletta in their last outing, Mosta will be all out to return to winning ways. The Blues are currently ninth on ten points, three ahead of Gudja who are coming from five consecutive defeats. Avoiding a defeat is therefore a must of Gudja as they lie second from bottom, three points ahead of bottom-placed Sliema.

Mosta could not count on the suspended Tyrone Farrugia and Sunday Akinbule.

At the Natonal Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Valletta face Birkirkara.

Maximum points from the last three matches, although this includes the match against Sliema which they won after their protest was upheld, put Valletta in second place and now lie five points behind leaders Hibernians and one ahead of rivals Birkirkara. The Stripes returned to winning ways last week as they defeated Sliema after losing two out of their previous three matches.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Sirens meet Gzira United.

One point separates the two teams with Sirens lying in seventh place on 14 points, followed by Gzira on 13. Two teams eager for points as they target a place in the top six. After a humiliating 1-6 defeat to Balzan, Sirens bounced back in style defeating Floriana 2-1 last week. The Maroons also returned to winning ways during the weekend as they beat Gudja 3-2 – a first win after a defeat and two draws in the previous three matches.
