BOV Challenge League: Tarxien rescue a point in a draw with Marsa

Tarxien Rainbows joined Pieta’ Hotspurs on top Group B in the BOV Challenge League following a 1-1 draw with Marsa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday. The Hotspurs, however, have a game in hand.

Ryan Darmanin put Marsa ahead on the 68th but Daneel Abela levelled matters eight minutes from time.

At the Centenary Stadium, Zebbug Rangers and Mgarr United shared the spoils in a goalless draw

Tarxien and Pieta’ lead the way with 16 points, followed by Zebbug on 14, Marsa 13, Swieqi 12, Fgura 11, Qrendi 10, Mgarr 7, St Andrews, Luqa and Senglea 6.

In Group A, Marsaxlokk and Mqabba claimed precious points as they defeated San Gwann and St. George’s respectively.

At the Centenary Stadium, a Terence Vella penalty on the 20th minute handed Marsaxlokk a narrow win over San Gwann.

On the other hand, at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Mqabba defeated St George’s 4-1. Ronald Makalysten Melo Costa put Mqabba ahead on the 42nd minute and although Gianluca Sultana equalised on the 45th, one minutes in added time, Luka Mijic made it 2-1. On the 75th, Luka Mijic increased the lead and Ryan Spiteri converted a penalty one minute from time to seal the issue.

Naxxar lead the way with 24 points, followed by Pembroke on 19, Zejtun and Melita 14, Marsaxlokk 10, San Gwann 9, Lija and Mqabba 7, Vittoriosa 6, Rabat 5 and St. George’s 1.
