Hibernians hope to extend lead

Leaders Hibernians will be hoping to move eight points clear as they take on Gzira United in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

In the first match, kick-off at 14:00, Birkirkara take on Mosta.

After claiming four points from their last two outings in a 2-0 win over Sliema and a goalless draw with Valletta, Birkirkara will be aiming for maximum points from the clash with Mosta. Lying in fourth place on 19 points, the Stripes would move second with a win over Mosta, two points ahead of Valletta and Floriana although the Citizens would have a game in hand. Mosta, on the other hand, are desperate for points as they lie joint-second from bottom with Santa Lucia and Gudja. They earned just one point from the last three matches following a 2-2 draw with Gzira and back-to-back defeats to Valletta and Gudja.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Mosta 3-0.

In the second match, kick-off at 18:00, Hibernians take on Gzira United.

The Paolites remained unbeaten in the first round with seven wins and four draws to build a five-point gap at the top. A win over Gzira on Sunday would enable them to extend the lead to six or eight points although Valletta would have a game in hand. In their last five games, they were held in three draws by Valletta, Birkirkara and Floriana. Gzira, on the other hand, claimed maximum points from their last two matches against Gudja and Sirens. Lying in joint-sixth place with Balzan on 16 points, a positive result is a must in their battle to secure a top six finish.

Wilfried Domoraud is ruled out for Hibernians as he serves a one-match ban.

In the first round, Hibernians defeated Gzira 3-1.
