BOV Challenge League: Pembroke held by San Gwann

Pembroke Athleta and San Gwann shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in a match from Group A of the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

An Andrea Zammit penalty on the 20th put San Gwann ahead but an Erikys Ferreira penalty on the 35th levelled matters for Pembroke.

In another match from Group A, Zejtun Corinthians defeated St. George’s 5-3 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Kouta Suemitsu put St. George’s ahead on the 3rd minute but Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves equalised a minute later. Lawrence Uchechi Chiedozie restored the lead for the Cospicua side on the 21st but Josmar Galea made it 2-2 foour minutes later and Renan Sgaria Farias put Zejtun ahead for the first time on the 38th. Samba Tounkara scored twice on the 67th and 83rd to extend the lead for Zejtun with Gianluca Sultana reducing the gap on the 85th.

Naxxar lead the way with 24 points, followed by Pembroke on 21, Zejtun 20, Melita 14, Marsaxlokk and San Gwann 10, Lija and Rabat 8, Mqabba 7, Vittoriosa 6 and St. George’s 1.

In Group B, Marsa were held in a 2-2 draw by Swieqi United at the Centenary Stadium.

Gonzalo Virano put Marsa ahead on the 5th minute, Alan Schembri Wismayer equalised on the 67th, Dylan Micallef restored the lead for Marsa on the 75th but a Johan Alberto Castano penalty restored equilibrium on the 79th.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel on the 49th and Bydasser Sammut on the 65th handed Qrendi a 2-0 win over Zebbug Rangers.

Pieta’ lead the way with 19 points, followed by Tarxien on 16, Marsa and Zebbug 14, Swieqi and Qrendi 13, Fgura 11, St Andrews and Senglea 9, Mgarr 7, Luqa 6.
