BOV National Amateur League: Gharghur held by Dingli; Zurrieq move top

Leaders Gharghur dropped two important points in Group A of the BOV National Amateur League as they were held in a goalless draw by Dingli Swallows at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Kalkara United returned to winning ways as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 4-1 to close in on the leaders.

Mohamed Ahmad Ayoub put Kalkara ahead on the 65th and two minutes later, Cedric Zahra doubled the score. Sunday Uforma Ubuwere pulled one back on the 79th but substitute Jordan Vella scored twice on the 86th and 93rd.

At the Luxol Stadium, Ghaxaq registered their first win, beating Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 thanks to goals by Ian Calleja on the 37th and Ryden Gatt on the 75th.

Gharghur lead the way with 18 points, followed by Kalkara on 16, Attard 13, Birzebbuga 12, Xghajra 9, Msida 8, Dingli and Siggiewi 7, Ta’ Xbiex 5 and Ghaxaq 4. Attard had nine points deducted.

In Group B, Zurrieq joined Marsaskala on top as they defeated Zabbar St. Patrick 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium.

Andre Joe Cutajar put Zurrieq ahead on the 4th minute but Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza equalised on the 23rd and Isaac Abela handed Zabbar the lead on the 36th. Ivan Bojovic levelled matters on the 63rd and Andre Joe Cutajar notched the winner on the 81st.

In another match, a goal by Wayne Chetcuti on the 48th and a brace by Stefan Vasilevski on the 69th and 88th gave Mellieha a comfortable 3-0 win over Qormi at the Luxol Stadium.

Marsaskala and Zurrieq lead the way with 19 points, followed by Mtarfa on 13, Zabbar 10, Mdina and Mellieha 9, Qormi 6, Sta. Venera 4 and Kirkop 2.
