Futsal: Valletta, University join Luxol on top

Three teams are sharing the top spot of the Enemed Futsal League standings following another round of matches at the National School of Sport in Pembroke. As champions Luxol were not in action during this week, University of Malta and Valletta took advantage to win their respective encounters and join them on top.

University of Malta stole the headlines as they registered a handsome 7-1 win over Ta’ Xbiex. The latter were coming from another defeat against Luxol but during this match they failed to get any points after starting their league commitments on a high. University had Lee Grech notching a hat-trick with Mohammed Elamari twice on the mark. Dale Valletta and Cleavon Portelli completed the score for their team. Stefi Cale scored Ta’ Xbiex’s only goal.

Valletta emulated UOM’s achievement as they registered a comfortable 12-2 win against Qormi. Karl Sciortino was the Citizens’ hero with five goals while Cedric Sciberras helped himself with a brace. On the other hand, Luke Gatt, Dylan Pace, Andre Ciancio, Adem Zouari and Jovica Milijic completed the dozen of goals for Valletta. Vuk Rankovic was twice on the mark for Qormi.

Mellieħa recorded a 4-0 win over Marsaskala. The Northerners managed to win their second consecutive match with Ervin Rigo inspirational for his team as he scored a hat-trick with Andrew Abela adding another one.

In a balanced encounter, St George’s claimed three important points in a win over Siġġiewi. The Cottonera side won 3-2 as Herbert Spiteri, Matthew Scicluna and Faisal Alnakou scoring the goals which turned the result into their favour after Wallace and Jean Lopez gave Siġġiewi a two goal lead.

In another balanced affair, Żurrieq Futsal obtained their first win of the season after seeing off Naxxar 4-2. Charlot Mamo scored a brace while a Terence Cachia penalty and another goal by Dylan Darmanin sealed the issue for Żurrieq. Antoine Barbara scored a brace for Naxxar.
