Naxxar Lions suffered a second successive defeat in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they lost 1-2 to Pembroke Athleta at the Centenary Stadium on Friday. Pembroke, who are still unbeaten, therefore, join Naxxar on top with 24 points.
Neil Pace Cocks put Pembroke ahead after just three minutes and Weverton Gomes doubled the score on the 61st. Jean Leon Cassar scored a consolation goal for Naxxar three minutes in added time.
Naxxar and Pembroke lead the way with 24 points, followed by Zejtun on 20, Melita 14, Marsaxlokk 1, San Gwann 10, Lija 9, Mqabba and Rabat 8, Vittoriosa 6 and St. George’s 1.
In Group B, Zebbug Rangers registered a 3-1 win over Marsa in a battle between the two teams sharing the third place behind joint-leaders Tarxien and Pieta’.
Igor Misan put Zebbug ahead on the 22nd minute and although Gonzalo Nicolas Virano converted a penalty to equalise on the 37th, Miguel Perez Jimenez made it 2-1 on the 62nd and five minutes later, Misan added another.
Pieta’ and Tarxien lead the way with 19 points, followed by Zebbug on 17, Marsa 14, Swieqi and Qrendi 13, Fgura 12, Senglea 10, St Andrews 9, Mgarr 7, Luqa 6.
