BOV Challenge League: Pieta’ take sole leadership as Tarxien lose to Fgura

Despite being held in a draw by Swieqi United, Pieta’ Hotspurs are now the sole leaders of Group B in the BOV Challenge League as Tarxien Rainbows were beaten 1-4 by Fgura United on Sunday.

At the Centenary Stadium, Pieta’ Hotspurs scored a goal in added time to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Swieqi United. Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva put Swieqi ahead on the 4th minute and although Daniel Zerafa equalised on the 33rd, Roderick Taliana restored the lead for Swieqi just before half-time. Swieqi seemed heading for victory but four minutes in added time, Yuto Morita notched the equaliser.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Fgura came from behind to beat Tarxien 4-1. Luke Sciberras put Tarxien ahead on the 37th but three minutes in the second half, Jose Costa Silva Ewertton equalised. Ten minutes later, Kenny Gandini made it 2-1 for Fgura and goals by Matthew Brincat on the 64th and Donys Quintero four minutes later extended the lead further.

Pieta’ lead the way with 20 points, followed by Tarxien on 19, Zebbug 17, Marsa 14, Swieqi and Qrendi 13, Fgura and St. Andrews 12, Senglea 10, Mgarr 8 and Luqa 7.

In Group A, Lija Athletic defeated St. George’s 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Lydon Micallef put Lija ahead on the 36th and Kurt Borg doubled the score on the 58th.

On the other hand, Melita and Rabat Ajax shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Centenary Stadium.

Naxxar and Pembroke lead the way with 24 points, followed by Zejtun on 20, Marsaxlokk 16, Melita 15, Lija 12, Mqabba 11, San Gwann 10, Rabat 9, Vittoriosa 6 and St. George’s 1.
