BOV Challenge League: Pembroke regain top spot

Pembroke Athleta regained the top spot in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated neighbours Melita 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

Adolphus Nagbe Marshall put Pembroke ahead on the 7th minute and Erikys da Silva Ferreira doubled the score on the 35th. Michael Cachia pulled one back on the 58th but Weverton Gomes made it 3-1 on the 79th.

Pembroke lead the way with 30 points, followed by Naxxar on 28, Zejtun 23, Lija and Melita 18, Marsaxlokk 16, San Gwann and Mqabba 13, Vittoriosa 10, Rabat 9 and St. George’s 4.

In Group B, two goals in added time by Siraj Arab Eddin on the 91st and Ian Montanaro on the 94th handed Marsa a 2-0 win over Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium.

Tarxien Rainbows were held in a 2-2 draw by Swieqi United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Thiago Nonato Peixoto put Tarxien ahead on the 33rd but Samuel Vella equalised on the 41st and Frank Temile made it 2-1 for Swieqi on the 77th. However Ricardo Silva Faria restored equilibrium on the 78th.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Senglea Athletic and Mgarr United shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Zebbug lead the way with 23 points, followed by Pieta’ and Tarxien on 21, Marsa 20, Fgura, Qrendi and Swieqi 16, St. Andrews 13, Senglea 12, Mgarr 9 and Luqa 7.
