Gzira United held by ten-man Valletta

Despite playing in ten men for the whole of the second half, Valletta managed to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Gzira United at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The two teams continue to share fifth place but now move one point ahead of Balzan, who, however, have a game in hand.

Following a goalless first half, the Citizens were reduced to ten two minutes in the second half when Alessandro Guarnone was sent off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity after bringing Maxuell Maia down outside the area.

However, Valletta still managed to take the lead on 81 minutes when off an Ivan Curjuric corner, Jean Borg addressed the ball into the direction of substitute Triston Caruana who headed home from close range.

But two minutes later, Gzira restored equilibrium courtesy of Maxuell Maia who rose high to head the ball home past substitute goalkeeper Yenz Cini following a cross from the left by Antonio Pavic.
