Hamrun, Birkirkara in direct clash for third place

Hamrun Spartans take on Birkirkara in a direct clash for third place in one of the two BOV Premier League matches which were originally due to be played in December but were postponed due to COVID issues.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, the Spartans will be aiming to return to winning ways after rescuing a point in a 2-2 draw with Balzan on Saturday after winning their previous four matches against Santa Lucia, Sliema, Valletta and Mosta. Hamrun lie in third place, four points behind Floriana and two points ahead of the Stripes.

The Stripes are coming from a narrow defeat to Floriana following a dramatic 3-2 win over Birkirkara in the previous game.

For Hamrun, Steve Borg is ruled out through suspension.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Hamrun 2-1.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, also kick-off at 19:00, Sliema Wanderers continue to chase their first win as they take on Balzan.

Lying at the bottom of the table with just four points, the Blues failed to collect a point from the last seven matches, losing narrowly to Balzan in their last outing. Balzan, on the other hand, lie in the eighth place on 20 points and are eager to bounce back after collecting just one point from the last two matches when they lost 2-3 to Birkirkara and were held in a 2-2 draw by Hamrun after they were leading 2-0 in both matches. A win over Sliema could, however, possibly put them in joint-fourth place.

Balzan’s Bojan Kaljevic and Milos Zlatkovic and Sliema’s Raffaele Schiavi are all ruled out through suspension.

In the first round, Balzan defeated Sliema 1-0.
