Sliema Wanderers register first win

Sliema Wanderers registered their first win as they defeated Balzan 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday,

A win which should lift their morale ahead of their remaining commitments although they remain at the bottom of the table, four points behind Santa Lucia and five behind Mosta. Balzan, on the other hand, remain eighth on 20 points to complete a most disappointing week which saw them earn just one point from three matches, twice losing a comfortable two-goal lead in the previous two matches.

Balan had Nikola Gulan making his debut but was forced to abandon the field of play inured after just ten minutes while seventeen-year old goalkeeper Adam Buttigieg replaced the injured David Cassar mid-way through the second half.

The Wanderers scored the all-important goal when off a Danny Holla corner from the right, Matteo Piciollo addressed the ball towards goal with the ball being saved partially by Galea and Kurt Shaw placed the ball at the back of the net.
