Hibernians eye three points from Santa Lucia clash

After back-to-back draws with Sirens and Mosta, leaders Hibernians will be aiming to return to winning ways as they take on Santa Lucia in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday. Sliema Wanderers face Sirens and Balzan cross swords with Mosta in the other two matches.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Hibernians host Santa Lucia.

The Paolites dropped four points in two draws and are therefore eager to return to winning ways, especially now that Floriana lie just four points behind. Hibernians are still unbeaten in fifteen matches but they were held in five draws from the last nine matches. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are currently second from bottom on 11 points, collecting just two points from the last six matches in draws with Balzan and Gzira.

Leading Santa Lucia for the first time will be coach Giovanni Tedesco.

In the first round, Santa Lucia held Hibernians in a 1-1 draw.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Sliema Wanderers face Sirens.

Fresh from their first win, against Balzan on Wednesday, Sliema target a second win on the trot from this clash in order to close in on Santa Lucia. However Sirens are currently fifth and are unbeaten in four matches, defeating Santa Lucia 2-1 in their last outing. A win on Saturday would, at least temporarily put them in fourth place.

Sliema’s Mark Scerri and Sirens’ Carlos Riascos are ruled out through suspension.

In the first round, Sirens and Sliema shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Balzan take on Mosta

After three disappointing results – a 2-3 defeat to Birkirkara, a 2-2 draw with Hamrun and a 0-1 defeat to Sliema, Balzan will be hoping to return to winning ways as they take on Mosta. Lying in the eighth place on 20 points, Balzan could move fifth or sixth in case of a win. Mosta, on the other hand, are currently third from bottom on 12 points, one ahead of Santa Lucia and five behind Gudja. They failed to register a win in the last seven matches but held Hibernians in a 1-1 draw last week.

Balzan could not count on the suspended Milan Djuric.

In the first round, Mosta defeated Balzan 2-1.
