Third consecutive draw for Hibernians

Leaders Hibernians continued to disappoint as they were held in a goalless draw by Santa Lucia at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

This was the third consecutive draw for the Paolites which saw them lose a potential six points which could have given them a much more comfortable lead as they lie five points ahead of Floriana and eight ahead of Hamrun Spartans with the latter two due to face each other in a direct clash for the second place on Sunday. This was also the sixth draw from the last ten matches for Hibernians.

For Santa Lucia, this was a precious point in their bid to avoid relegation. They join Mosta on the 12-point mark but the Blues will be facing Balzan later on Saturday.

Making his debut for Santa Lucia was coach Giovanni Tedesco who took over earlier this week following the departure of Oliver Spiteri.

Both sides had their fair share of scoring opportunities with goalkeepers Justin Haber and Matthew Calleja Cremona performing good saves.

Late in the first half, Ferdinando Apap came to the rescue clearing into safety a goal-bound shot by Jan Tanti, served by Jamie Zerafa, after the former San Gwann player had anticipated Calleja Cremona.

On the 76th, Jurgen Degabriele was unlucky to hit the upright, direct from a corner and a minute later, Dunstan Vella, served by Joseph Zerafa, had another shot which hit the post.
