BOV Challenge League: Lija hit five past Vittoriosa

Lija Athletic came from behind to beat Vittoriosa Stars 5-1 in a match from Group A of the BOV Challenge League at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde put Vittoriosa ahead on the 29th but then had a player sent off. Lian Xuereb equalised six minutes from the end of the first half and Lydon Micallef scored four in the second half on the 50th, 71st (penalty), 80th and 87th.

At the Centenary Stadium, Melita returned to winning ways, defeating St. George’s 3-0. Michael Cachia put the Amateurs ahead on the 36th. Matteo Desira Buttigieg doubled the score on the 59th before converting a penalty on the 73rd to make it 3-0.

Naxxar lead the way with 31 points, followed by Pembroke on 30, Zejtun 24, Lija and Melita 21, Marsaxlokk 19, San Gwann 17, Mqabba 16, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 9 and St. George’s 4.

At the Centenary Stadium, Fgura United beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-1. A brace by Rafael Conrado Prudente on the 32nd and 34th put Fgura two goals ahead with Larson Mallia reducing the gap for Luqa three minutes in the second half.

Qrendi defeated Senglea Athletic by the odd goal in five at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Andres Tenorio Viveros put Senglea ahead on the 8th minute but Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe equalised on the hour and Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel made it 2-1 for Qrendi on the 73rd thanks to a penalty. Ryan Dalli restored equilibrium on the 85th but Ian Zammit notched the winner one minute from time.

Zebbug lead the way with 27 points followed by Pieta on 24, Tarxien 22, Marsa and Qrendi 20, Fgura and Swieqi 19, St. Andrews 16, Senglea 12, Mgarr 10 and Luqa 7.
