Degabriele puts Hibernians back on track

Hibernians returned to winning ways as they defeated Sliema Wanderers 1-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

A win which enables the Paolites to regain a seven-point lead on top the BOV Premier League table but second-placed Floriana have a game in hand. Sliema, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table two points behind Santa Lucia and eight behind Mosta.

Hibs had Ali Diakite making his debut along with substitute Hugo Filipe da Costa Oliveira as they lacked no less than three players who were serving a one-match ban, namely Jake Grech, Gabi Izquier and Thaylor.

The Paolites scored the all-important goal on the 20th minute thanks to a fine Jurgen Degabriele effort whose shot from outside the area, following a good move between Diakite and Beu, gave goalkeeper David Cassar no chance.
