BOV Challenge League: Pembroke extend unbeaten record to regain top spot

Pembroke Athleta regained the top spot in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they scored three in the final thirty minutes to beat Rabat Ajax 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.

Weverton Gomes broke the deadlock on 63 minutes, Stefan Jankovic doubled the score nine minutes from time and three minutes in added time, Gomes converted a penalty to make it 3-0.

At the Centenary Stadium, Marsaxlokk earned another three precious points thanks to a 2-1 win over Zejtun Corinthians. Neil Micallef put them ahead on the 24th and just before the end of the first half, Peter Xuereb doubled the score. Renan Sgaria Farias pulled one back on the 57th.

Pembroke lead the way with 33 points, followed by Naxxar on 31, Zejtun 24, Marsaxlokk 22, Lija and Melita 21, San Gwann 17, Mqabba 16, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 9 and St. George’s 4.

In Group B, Tarxien Rainbows came from behind to beat St. Andrews 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to move second. Luis Andre de Melo Lima put the Saints ahead on the 24th but three minutes in the second half, Saturday Nanapere equalised. Darren Falzon put Tarxien ahead on the 70th and three minutes from time, Wellington de Oliveira sealed the issue for the Rainbows.

On the other hand, a goal by Luca Brincat on the 32nd handed Marsa a narrow win over Mgarr United at the Centenary Stadium.

Zebbug lead the way with 27 points followed by Tarxien on 25, Pieta on 24, Marsa 23, Qrendi 20, Fgura and Swieqi 19, St. Andrews 16, Senglea 12, Mgarr 10 and Luqa 7.
