Izibet FA Trophy: Santa Lucia eliminate Sirens to reach Round of 16

Birkirkara, Hamrun Spartans, Santa Lucia, Sliema Wanderers and Challenge League side Zejtun Corinthians joined Balzan, Floriana, Gudja United, Hibernians, Mosta, Valletta and Challenge League sides St. George’s and Tarxien Rainbows in the Round of 16 of the Izibet FA Trophy as another five matches from the Round of 32 were played on Thursday.

In the only clash between two Premier League sides, Santa Lucia defeated Sirens 4-1 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.

In the next round, they will face the winners of the clash between Challenge League sides Zebbug Rangers and St,. Andrews.

Meghan Valpoort put Santa Lucia ahead on the 3rd minute and the same player doubled the score on the 20th. Five minutes from the end of the first half, Vito Plut made it 3-0.

Dexter Xuereb increased the lead on the 64th but Marios Lomis pulled one back four minutes later.

A goal by Faissal El Bakhtaoui on the 28th minute handed Hamrun Spartans a narrow win over Naxxar Lions at the Centenary Stadium.

In the next round, Hamrun will be facing Balzan.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Sliema Wanderers defeated Vittoriosa 3-0 to set up a clash with the winner of the match between Pembroke Athleta and Marsaxlokk.

Juan Pablo Morales Rengifo handed Sliema the lead on the 33rd and just before the end of the first half, Jake Engerer doubled the score.

Three minutes in added time, Omar Elouni sealed the issue with a third goal.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians defeated Xewkija Tigers 7-1.

Renan Sgaria Farias handed Zejtun a three-goal lead as he scored three within the first twenty minutes with goals on the 7th, 11th and 20th. Gillmore Azzopardi made it 4-0 on the 29th.

Eleven minutes in the second half, Renan Sgaria Farias made it 5-0 with Panin Boakye Mensa adding another on the 68th. Haruna Shola Shodija pulled one back for Xewkija on the 79th but six minutes from time, Christian Grech made it 7-1.

In the next round, Zejtun will be facing Hibernians.

Birkirkara defeated Fgura United 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium to set up a clash with Mosta in the Round of 16.

Luke Montebello put the Stripes ahead on the 12th minute and six minutes later, Jeferson Macedo doubled the score. Kilian Bevis made it 3-0 on the 26th.

Four minutes in the second half, Federico Falcone scored Birkirkara’s fourth.
