BOV National Amateur League: Marsaskala re-join Zurrieq on top

Marsaskala re-joined Zurrieq on top of Group B of the BOV National Amateur League following a 3-2 win over Qormi at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Adrian Carabott put Marsaskala ahead on the 36th but just before the end of the first half, Carlos Debattista equalised and Shazen Magri made it 2-1 for Qormi on the 74th. However Joseph Chetcuti restored equilibrium on the 87th and a Nicholas Zammit penalty on the 93rd handed Marsaskala the three points.

Kirkop United registered a third win in four matches as they defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium.

Melchior Grech put Kirkop ahead on the 20th and Matthew Borg scored twice on the 29th and 77th to extend the lead further. Luke Taliana scored a consolation goal on the 90th.

Marsaskala and Zurrieq lead the way with 26 points, followed by Mtarfa and Zabbar on 22, Kirkop 11, Mellieha 10, Mdina and Qormi 9, Sta. Venera 8.

In Group A, Msida St. Joseph defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium thanks an own goal on the 48th and Christian Caruana two minutes later.

At the Sirens Stadium, Xghajra Tornados came from behind to beat Dingli Swallows 2-1. Luke Galea put Dingli ahead on the 14th, Josmar Farrugia equalised on the 39th and Aaron Hili converted a penalty on the 94th.

Attard lead the way with 25 points, followed by Gharghur and Kalkara on 23, Msida 19, Birzebbuga 17, Xghajra 16, Dingli 11, Ta’ Xbiex and Siggiewi 9, Ghaxaq 8. Attard had nine points deducted.
