Gudja test for Hamrun Spartans

After suffering a heavy defeat to Gzira United in their last league outing, Hamrun Spartans will be all out to claim the three points as they take on Gudja United in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday. Sliema Wanderers cross swords with Santa Lucia in a bottom-of-the-table clash while Birkirkara face Sirens.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Hamrun Spartans take on Gudja United.

Hamrun are currently sharing fourth place with Gzira on 27 points, three behind Birkirkara and two ahead of Sirens while Gudja share the eighth place with Balzan, one behind Valletta and two ahead of Mosta. The Spartans collected just three points from the last four league matches, earning points in draws with Balzan, Birkirkara and Floriana, losing to Gzira although they defeated Naxxar 1-0 in the Izibet FA Trophy. Gudja also lost their last league game – 0-1 to Birkirkara but had registered three wins in the previous three matches. In the Izibet FA Trophy, they beat Swieqi United 4-0.

In the first round, Hamrun defeated Gudja 3-1.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Sliema Wanderers face Santa Lucia.

Two points separate the two teams with Santa Lucia lying two points ahead of bottom-placed Sliema. The Wanderers won two out of the last three league games, defeating Balzan and Sirens and losing to Hibernians. They went on to defeat Vittoriosa Stars 3-0 in the Izibet FA Trophy. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, failed to win any league games since the 2-0 win over Birkirkara in November, earning just three points in three draws out of the last eight matches. However, in the Izibet FA Trophy, they defeated Sirens with an impressive 4-1 score.

The Blues could not count on the suspended Gabriel Aquilina.

In the first round, Sliema and Santa Lucia shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Birkirkara meet Sirens.

Both teams seek precious points in their bid to secure a top-six finish as the Stripes are currently third on 30 points and Sirens sixth on 25. Following a goalless draw with Hamrun, the Stripes registered narrow wins over Gzira United and Gudja United and in the FA Trophy, they defeated Fgura United 4-0. Sirens, on the other hand, won three out of their last five matches, including a 2-1 win over Valletta in their last league outing, earning a draw with Hibernians and losing narrowly to Hamrun. However, in the Izibet FA Trophy, they disappointed in a 1-4 defeat to Santa Lucia on Thursday.

Henrique Marcelino Motta and Degran Jackson of Sirens and Birkirkara defender Enrico Pepe are ruled out as they serve a one-match ban.

In the first round, Sirens defeated Birkirkara 3-2.
