Floriana will be hoping to close in on leaders Hibernians as they take on Gzira United in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday. Meanwhile precious points will be at stake as Mosta take on Sliema Wanderers and Santa Lucia face Valletta.
At the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 11:30, Mosta cross swords with Sliema Wanderers.
Mosta are currently third from bottom on eighteen points and target a win which could see them leapfrog Balzan into the eighth place. Following back-to-back wins over Balzan and Santa Lucia, the Blues lost 0-2 to leaders Floriana in their last outing. Sliema, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table following a 1-1 draw with Santa Lucia in the basement clash last week. A draw which cost coach Andrea Pisanu his job. The team will be led by his assistant Noel Turner and newly-appointed technical director Oliver Spiteri.
Mosta’s Geoffrey Acheampong and Sliema’s Gui Inters are ruled out through suspension.
In the first round, Mosta defeated Sliema 3-2.
At the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Santa Lucia face Valletta in a clash between two teams desperate for points.
Santa Lucia are currently second from bottom on 13 points but lost just one out of their last three matches, earning two points in draws with Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers. Valletta, on the other hand, lost six out of the last seven matches, including last week’s 1-4 defeat to Hibernians, earning their only point in a draw with Gzira United. They are currently eighth on 21 points, six points behind Gzira United and Sirens who share the fifth place.
Santa Lucia could not count on the suspended Jamie Zerafa.
In the first round, Valletta defeated Santa Lucia 5-3.
At the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Floriana will be all out to claim the three points from the clash with Gzira United in their bid to close in on leaders Hibernians.
In fact, following the defeat for Hibernians to Birkirkara, Floriana would move to just one point behind the Paolites should they defeat Gzira. The Greens are unbeaten in eight matches, claiming maximum points from back-to-back wins over Balzan and Mosta in their last two outings. Gzira, on the other hand, are currently joint-fifth on 27 points with Sirens, one point behind Hamrun. A positive result is a must in their bid to close in on a top-six spot.
