Naxxar Lions registered a most comfortable 9-2 win over Vittoriosa Stars in a match from Group A of the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Gaston Poncet Otero put Naxxar ahead on the 7th minute but Mattias Formosa equalised on the 14th. Goals by Leejoe Schembri on the 17th and Jurgen Debono on the 40th handed Naxxar a 3-1 lead and although four minutes in the second half, Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde reduced the gap, Naxxar scored six thanks to three goals by Poncet Otero on the 62nd, 65th and 83rd and three by Joel Ellul on the 63rd, 78th and 88th.
Leaders Pembroke Athleta were held in a 1-1 draw by Zejtun Corinthians at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Samba Tounkara put Zejtun ahead on the half hour but just before the end of the first half, Erikys da Silva Ferreira levelled matters for Pembroke.
Pembroke lead the way with 35 points, followed by Naxxar on 34, Zejtun 28, Marsaxlokk 26, Melita 24, San Gwann 23, Lija 21, Mqabba 17, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 10 and St. George’s 4.
In Group B, Pieta’ Hotspurs joined Zebbug Rangers on top thanks to a 3-2 win over Qrendi at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe put Qrendi ahead on the 2nd minute but Samuel Okoh equalised on the 24th and Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos made it 2-1 on the 38th. Two minutes from the end of the first half, Qrendi levelled matters through Ogunnupe but James Scicluna notched the winner for the Hotspurs on the 63rd.
On the other hand, goals by Donys Aldair Quinters on the 69th and Gabriel Borg on the 88th handed Fgura United a 2-0 win over Mgarr Untied at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Pieta’ and Zebbug lead the way with 30 points followed by Marsa on 29, Tarxien 28, Fgura 22, Qrendi 20, St. Andrews and Swieqi 19, Senglea 12, Mgarr and Luqa 10.
