Floriana hope to move top as Hibernians face Spartans test

Floriana could take sole leadership in the BOV Premier League should they beat Gudja United and Hibernians fail to beat Hamrun Spartans in two of the matches in programme on Saturday. will be hoping to close in on leaders Hibernians as they take on Gzira United in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday. Valletta take on Sliema Wanderers in the other match.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Valletta take on Sliema Wanderers.

Sharing the eighth place with Mosta on 21 points, Valletta are desperate to get the three points from this clash with bottom-placed Sliema Wanderers who lie at the bottom of the table on 11. Losing seven out of the last eight matches, the Citizens cannot afford any result other than a win in order to maintain alive hopes of securing a top-six finish at the end of the first phase. They are coming from four consecutive defeats to Gudja, Sirens, Hibernians and Santa Lucia. Sliema, on the other hand, earned just one point from the last two matches following a 1-1 draw with Santa Lucia and a 0-1 defeat to Mosta.

Danny Holla and Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves will be serving a one-match ban for Sliema.

In the first round, Sliema defeated Valletta 2-1 but the Citizens were awarded the points following a protest.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Hamrun Spartans face Hibernians.

The Paolites lost their unbeaten record last week, losing 2-3 to Birkirkara but apart from that the fact that they earned just nine points from a possible eighteen from the last six matches meant that their lead on top the BOV Premier League table went down to just one point. Therefore at this point, Hibs cannot afford any result other than a win. Hamrun, on the other hand, need the three points in order to move a step closer towards securing a top-six finish. They failed to win in six league matches, losing to Gzira and Gudja and earning points in draws with Balzan, Birkirkara, Floriana and Sirens.

Hibs will be without the suspended Andrei Agius and Leandro Almeida.

In the first round, Hibs defeated Hamrun 1-0.

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Floriana take on Gudja United.

Seven wins in eight matches enabled the Greens to move to just one point behind leaders Hibernians. Gudja, on the other hand, are currently seventh but lie just two points behind fourth-placed Hamrun and one behind Gzira and Sirens. They won five out of the last six matches, losing only to Hibernians.

The Greens could not count on goalkeeper Georgi Kitanov and Emiliano Callegari who are ruled out through suspension. Gudja goalkeeper Glenn Zammit also serves a one-match ban.
