BOV Challenge League: Melita stun Naxxar

Naxxar Lions missed out on the chance to move top in Group A of the BOV Challenge League as they suffered a 0-2 defeat to Melita at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Christopher Baker put Melita ahead on the 26th and Matthew Debattista doubled the score four minutes in the second half.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, a goal by Xuan Cappellino on the 11th minute handed Marsaxlokk a 1-0 win over St. George’s.

Pembroke lead the way with 35 points, followed by Naxxar on 34, Zejtun 31, Marsaxlokk 29, Melita 27, San Gwann 23, Lija 21, Mqabba 17, Rabat and Vittoriosa 13 and St. George’s 4.

In Group B, Zebbug Rangers moved six points clear as they defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 4-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

An own goal by Kayode Victor Olowoyo on the 19th minute handed Zebbug the lead and Miguel Perez Jimenez doubled the score just before the end of the first half, adding another two goals on the 53rd and 66th.

St. Andrews beat Senglea Athletic by the odd goal in five at the Centenary Stadium.

Matheus de Lucena Guariento put Senglea ahead on the 2nd minute and a minute later, Alex Nilsson levelled matters. Kei Sano put the Saints ahead on the 23rd but three minutes later, Lucas Mancuso Lemos Santos Ferreira restored equilibrium. Jamie Sixsmith made it 3-2 for St. Andrews four minutes in the second half.

Zebbug lead the way with 36 points followed by Pieta’ on 30, Marsa on 29, Tarxien 28, Fgura 25, St. Andrews 22, Qrendi 20, Swieqi 19, Senglea 12, Mgarr and Luqa 10.
