Gzira United and Sirens will be hoping to move closer to securing a top-six finish as they take on Mosta and Balzan respectively in two of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday. Birkirkara face Santa Lucia in the other match.
At this point, Floriana, Hibernians and Birkirkara have already secured their top-six status while Santa Lucia and Sliema are sure of playing in the bottom six.
At the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Birkirkara take on Santa Lucia.
Lying in third place on 34 points, Birkirkara target the three points in their bid to keep the pace with leaders Floriana and second-placed Hibernians. The Stripes are unbeaten in five matches, earning points in draws with Hamrun and Sirens and beating Gzira, Gudja and Hibernians – this being the first defeat for the Paolites this season. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are second from bottom. Their morale is high following a 2-1 win over Valletta last week.
In the first round, Santa Lucia defeated Birkirkara 2-0.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Balzan face Sirens.
Lying third from bottom on 20 points, chances of making it to the top six are rather slim for Balzan. They lost their last five games to Sliema, Mosta, Floriana, Gzira and Gudja and are yet to register a win since December. Sirens, on the other hand, share the fifth place with Gzira United and eye the three points which puts them closer to making it to the top six. They are coming from three positive results – a win over Valletta and two draws with Birkirkara and Sirens and lost just one match from the last eight.
In the first round, Balzan had registered a most comfortable 6-1 win over Sirens.
At the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Gzira United take on Mosta.
After losing 1-2 to Floriana in their last outing, Gzira United will be all out to return to winning ways in their bid to move closer to securing a top-six finish. Lying in the fifth place with Sirens, a win is a must for Darren Abdilla’s side as seventh-placed Gudja lie just one point behind and Valletta three. However, this will be no easy task as Mosta, who are currently ninth would move to just three points behind the Maroons in case of a win. The Blues won three out of the last four matches, losing to Floriana in the other match.
Gabriel Bohrer Mentz is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban.
In the first round, Mosta and Gzira shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
