Gharghur kept the pace with leaders Attard in Group A of the BOV National Amateur League as they defeated Ghaxaq 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.
An own goal after just three minutes paved the way for Gharghur who doubled the score through Ikechukwu Igwemeke nine minutes in the second half.
Attard lead the way with 32 points, followed by Gharghur on 30, Msida 25, Birzebbuga and Kalkara 23, Xghajra 18, Siggiewi 13, Ghaxaq and Dingli 11, Ta’ Xbiex 10. Attard had nine points deducted.
In Group B, Zabbar St. Patrick defeated Mtarfa 5-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
David Oliveira Souza put Zabbar ahead on the 19th minute but two minutes in the second half, Alejandro Brincat levelled matters. The Saints regained the lead a minute later through Miguel Ciantar and eleven minutes from time, Gianluca Zammit made it 3-1. Dylan Douglas Camilleri reduced the gap on the 86th but David Oliveira Souza sealed the issue with goals on the 87th and 92nd.
Zurrieq lead the way with 35 points, followed by Marsaskala on 29, Zabbar 28, Mtarfa 25, Mdina 18, Kirkop 11, Mellieha 10, Qormi 9, Sta. Venera 8.
